Powder Coating Explained

What exactly is bicycle "powder coating"? Powder coating is a premium quality bike paint that is highly durable and protective of a bicycle's metal finish. Powder coating is considered a "Green" paint because it is better for the environment than regular wet (liquid) paint used by other bike fabricators.

Professional powder coating outlasts liquid paint applications and a professionally applied powder coat will not rust, chip or fade.

What is the procees? Powder coat paint is applied by a spray gun that electrostatically charges the powder as it sprays. The bike part being coated is electrically grounded and the charged particles of powder paint ahere tightly to the part. After coating, the part is placed in a special oven for curing. When the oven reaches 400 degrees, the powder coat melts and fuses over the surface of the bike part like a glove without dripping or running.

The result is an ultra-hardened, beautiful finish. Alchemy custom handcrafted bicycle frames are painted using the powder coat paint technique.
